We provide a large contract research program on energy metabolism in relation to obesity, type 2 diabetes, NASH and atherosclerosis. Within this field of expertise we offer custom-made drug and dietary intervention studies in our unique APOE*3-Leiden.CETP mouse model, a well-established model for human-like lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis.
Our services also extend to the use of our main infrastructure “hardware”. This includes large (and often very expensive) equipment and facilities, such as our 7 Tesla MRI-scanner.
State-of-the-art MRI scanner with ultra-high magnetic field strength (7 Tesla) for increased image quality, contrast and/or resolution. Coils are available for brain (proton, sodium, and phosphorus), knee (proton and sodium), muscle (proton and phosphorus) and cardiac applications. Available scan protocols include SWI, FLAIR, BOLD, TOF, T1, T2, and spectroscopy.

If your product development requires a specific peptide and/or imaging label design, we can explore possible synthetic routes and and can perform custom synthesis. On top we can take care of bioconjugation to peptides, proteins etc. If desired structure activity optimizations can be performed and the synthetic route can be made suitable for cGMP production, which may be facilitated by the GMP production facility at the LUMC. We have numerous in-house synthesized fluorescent dyes available for conjugation and tailoring of the tracer kinetics. On top we have labels available for conjugation that combine a fluorescent dye with the most routinely used chelates available for SPECT or PET imaging. The Interventional Molecular Imaging Lab in the Leiden University Medical Center is dedicated to the synthesis and development of radiolabeled and fluorescent peptides, proteins and antibodies with particular expertise in hybrid labelling. We find synthesis solutions to difficult imaging problems. While others can merely synthesize or evaluate a compound, we offer synthesis tailored to the specific requirements of our clients and assist in the evaluation of the labelled compound. We use our clinical experience to arrive at the optimal structure-activity relationship.
